My wife has really gotten on board, "Yeah"! Last night she told me that I need to pick up more food items. "Yeah" She wanted to know if commercial beef jerky had a shelf life, I did not know, and she wanted to know if cheese and peanut butter cookies had a shelf life, again I did not know. Does anyone know the answer to these questions. They would be pretty good for eating on the run. And are fairly inexpensive. By the way we do have a good supply of the staples.
Commercial beef jerky isn't a long term food. After a year or so, it begins to lose flavor in a big way. It's also pretty expensive when you consider price per pound. You can make your own a lot cheaper, actually. I love homemade jerky.
The cheese and PB snack crackers don't have a long shelf life either. The oils go rancid in them after a while. I'd figure probably 6 months to a year past their expiration date.
Of course this doesn't matter if you're going to keep them rotated, and those types of foods are easy to rotate so they might work out great for you. I actually take the snack crackers and jerky to the gun shows I sell at since I rarely get a chance to have lunch at them. I've had the cracker packs last well over a year in the bottom of my suitcase.
