I joined to better my survival prep ideas. For the most part, the boat has what is needed for long term (6 months or more) survival WTSHTF. We cruise north during the summers and south for the winters. I do try to be 100 percent legal and one is the biggest issues I see coming up when traveling north is the growing dislike of those who take personal safety seriously in the northern states, such as MD, NJ & NY. They will not like the firearms I keep on board. Interesting enough, we have no issues in clearing customs in the Bahamas.
At least my first mate is a retired cop and her retired badge and 218 card does provide us with a little leeway.
Welcome! Sail or power? We sail in the Caribbean but for down there, we rent. We own a Compac and piddle up here. There are several sea dogs on here. You'll fit right in.
Just moved up to a Bayfield 25 this fall myself, looking to get alot of sailing in next year. It's finally the boat I feel my family and I could last a long time on if we had to. Looking forward to hearing what you have.
Thank you for the warm welcomes! My son and I built a 70 foot steel trawler, which is a slow moving power boat with the capabilities of crossing any ocean. There is still lots to do in finishing up the interior, but after 12 year of work - still having fun at it! Once I figure out how to post pictures, I will upload one. I believe this is the ultimate escape vehicle for when the zombies come! All in good fun while at the same time, being serious about survival.
