Search for "offroad trailers" in Google and you'll find a lot of information. Also take a look at this forum for ideas/info: http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...ition-Trailers If you can weld or know someone who can, you could probably build something yourself cheaper and stronger. |

I am not necessarily interested in the tent/pop up part though. I really just want a small trailer, about this size, that I can throw a bunch more cr*p into and tow behind my Scout when I am in the great outdoors. Quote:
All is not lost though, I got my questions answered, and a bunch of people shared workable alternatives. Thank you to everyone who replied. |

You may alredy be aware of this but if not check out expeditionportal forums. They have a sub forum just for those types of trailer.

...Time to get out the welder and use an old Jeep or Scout axle (I prefer using the front spindles (with a piece of thick walled tube between them) and hubs both on the trailer and to mount the spare)...
The box part is easy to construct; bells and whistles add complexity though. Enjoy! |

Yup! Depends on the wallet thickness and skilsets.
When I or my friends need a trailer we normally just build one using parts and suspension from the axle and spring pile. For some time I have been tempted to build one using a couple of Jeep tub sections. The last one was a quad trailer using Jeep leaf springs with overloads and the rear spindles and hubs from a parted out Dana 61 full floater. The frame was made from a sectoin of 8 or 9" channel that we split length wise. The trailer hitch was salvaged from an articulating (bend in the middle) buggy experiment. Total cost; some welding gas & wire, some bolts to attach the plywood floor, some heavy hinges for the ramps and several cans of spray paint from the farm store. Enjoy! |

If you are more of a do it yourself kind of guy check out Dinoot Trailers. They market a kit based on a Harbor Freight trailer, pretty inexpensive compared to the high dollar ready made trailers.

Manley ORV makes a good copy of the M416.

in jp magazine, they ran an article about different trailers and who makes them, that one was in the ones that they tried, just look online for back issues and you should be able to find it

Thanks for this link, I have been looking for a 416 and this is a great option. The Jeep trailer is very poorly made and has NO suspension. Campausa.com has great options but their prices have shot through the roof since there has been a big increase in expedition camping trailers.

Pikes Peak makes some great trailers. but again, they have a steep price tag.
You could build your own, but if you don't already have welding supplies, the savings might be negligible. I built a larger version of the one pictured above (minus the lid- mine's below), and came in at just under a grand. ![]() |

another excellent option.
I have seen these in the past, from post here on survivalistboards, but it had slipped my mind. If this thread serves no other purpose, its a great place to consolidate different options for small trailers. |
