Well i have quit several times tried the patches didn't work cold turkey has worked for me and the hubby each time it was just sure will power. We're trying it again started yesterday was doing ok till hubby had to run to the gas station last night and had a moment of weakness. I've had 2 this morning but once he leaves for work I'll have to walk 2 miles if I want to cheat. I told the hubby don't bring them home anymore. Each time we have quit it was for well over a year or more untill a really stressful situation happened and a moment of weakness. I know this time I will be successful and now know better then to give in to a moment of stress.

I've know one person who finally quit by cutting a soda straw in half when she had the urge she put the straw in her hand that worked for her.

you can do it I know I can also the thing this time is knowing bothers my daughter so much she's counting them amd crying over it and she's an adult.

Good luck to us both.

Go to your local hospital and visit the ward full of patients with (we call it in the UK..)COPD.
Its a group of respiratory diseases caused by exposure to industrial and environmental pollution, and smoking.
Think to yourself "thats my future if I dont stop smoking".
Its a horrible, frightening thing to see, and in my job as an EMT, I see it quite a bit.
It helped me stop completely, many years ago.

Default Runaway jury

I quit over ten years ago. What finally worked for me was reading the book Runaway Jury. Unlike the movie, the book is about nasty tobacco companies and the sneaky things they've done to make cigarettes even more addictive. (all the while hiding the proof that they were a health hazard) Gov't money actually went into this and then they make all the money off the taxes on smokes...hmmmm....

Hypnosis. My mother-in-law quit more than 20 years ago with hypnosis - she had been a chain smoker.

yep, John Grisham!
That book got me through the weeks it took me to quit. I quit cold turkey but was an emotional mess for about 6 weeks. Hardest thing I've ever done but it was worth it! I've been smoke-free for about 12 years now.

Try a Homeopathic Tobacco, its all natural, and might ease the mental part of quitting. I am currently trying it ,and it's working, i have been really hard on myself by sitting with my friends while they huff and puff. so i pull out my dropper and get my "fix".

What did it for me was the discovery that both my aunt and uncle committed suicide from their diseases caused by smoking, and ESPECIALLY the sight of their daughter's (my cousin, also a life-long smoker) gums, which were PURPLE and GREEN.

The sight of purple and green gums pretty much made me never wish to pick up a cig again. The image is forever etched into my mind.

Cold turkey works for some.

I cut down my smoking for a month. Slowly. From a pack, to 10 a day, then 5 a day, then maybe 2 a day for a week. IF you can fight those cravings over that month and wait, then it will help you quit.

Purchase a carton and call it quits. Also, try different cigarettes. Different brand or non-menthol If you smoke menthol.

I used the nicotine gum. But not the maintenance system they recommend. Basically, If I couldn't take it any longer. Then I chewed a piece of gum. I purchased one box, but probably only used 1/2 of it.

Change your habits a little bit. Avoid smoking places like bars or wherever you link a social or habitual thing to smoking cigarettes.

Chantix was the only the that has worked for me. I smoked occasionally for 10 years, about 1/2 a pack a day or so. I fell off the wagon after being smoke-free for 3 months while camping last weekend, and I've been fighting the cravings (again) ever since.

I'm out of Chantix, but I've been saying a prayer every time I feel like a smoke. So far, its working, and without the side effects of the freaky dreams Chantix gave me.

Good luck!
