So just because you want due process we need to have a trial before each bullet is fired by a soldier in a war? How ignorant is that.
We are at war with terrorist and have been since 2001

I think that is the case, during war time. Have we declared war?

Well, as long as you thought so then I'm sure it's fine. That is after all how Due Process works? I think you're a terrorist, therefore you are, have a nice afterlife.
Yes we have a declared war against terrorists that has been ongoing since Sept 11, 2001. It has been a mission of the CIA, the FBI and the military to hunt down and destroy any terrorist cells. If we allow the leader to go free we will have another 9/11 sooner not later.

American Citizens are afforded due process.

Or have you not read that you're a terrorist?

Have you paid attention to what DHS has put out about people who own guns, who prep food, who think themselves survivalists?

You, to the US Government, are a possible terrorist.

You are saying that it's OK for the same government to kill American Citizens it deems terrorists to murder them without due process.

You should line up first.

It's not just a function of what the soldier is doing, it's also a question of what his target is doing. If the US citizen target is shooting at the soldier, his due process is a shot right back at him. Nobody is claiming that elaborate notions of due process apply on the battlefield in the heat of battle.

But, if the US citizen target is just sitting in a sidewalk cafe in a country in which we don't even have Congressional approval to be warring in and around other who aren't enemy combatants, the due process demands a bit more.

Al Alwaki (or whatever his name was) was sitting in a sidewalk cafe in Yemen and Obama had his minions take him out with a drone strike. While there evidence that he was an enemy combatant in a technical sense, there is no evidence he ever took up arms against the US. That is murder.

To make the point again, what if Obama and his minions (or, again, if you are a liberal, Bush/Rove/Cheney) decides anyone who refuses to give up their guns is an enemy combatant. They just get to assasinate them?

People really need to think this through a bit more.

I think a lot of the people commenting on this thread need to read 1984, the (ab)use of perpetual war, fear, newspeak ("patriot act" anyone?) and so on...

We have an authorized use of military force, not a declaration of war.

No. That is an absurd parallel to draw. I also do not believe that cops should get shot instead of defending themselves or the public. Those processes are built into the COTUS, see "public danger", I believe that it's outlined in the 5th Amendment.

Agreed. You might be fine consenting to the government and giving them the ability to by pass Due Process, but many of us are not. In fact, it's the very first part of our Oaths.

They are here to protect us, but who is here to protect us from them?

Ok, lets do the math; 2 billion rounds divided by 230 million Americans........umm, thassabout 7+ rounds per person. I understand your point, all the agencies, by five years, that's only 400,000,000 rounds a year. No biggie. (!) One thing, in a war theatre the Military is prohibited from using HP ammo. Geneva Convention...so why are they getting it for HS? You can't cap an Ethopian with it, but someone from Wisconsin?

you work the numbers. i can't anymore. fed agencies/ everybody now a days even the guy that counts the hairs on some endangered species gets a pistol; ammo is provided by uncle sugar. (duty ammo), (practice ammo), (qualification ammo). (a lot of fed.s) times X number of years (five, your number). plus what they set aside for rainy days. it all adds up. excuse me my tin foil hat needs adjusting. be safe.

PS. if you can figure out how many fed.s are issued weapons that would be cool. my head blows up when i get passed my fingers and toes.
