Late Middle Ages Long Bows.

How could one acquire a Longbow in a style that was common place in the late Middle Ages?

I don't want some bow that has lots of parts and junk, just something simple.

And, how much might such an item cost ( a range between what price and what price?)

Do you mean a longbow or a war bow as they are very different?

Do you want an exact duplicate or a modern version with a shelf arrow rest?

How much are you willing to spend as they range from $75 to $750+?

Bought a Jim Brackenbury Sidekick, take down, recurve, custom case, arrows, and quiver for $236.00. I love take down bows. He was a custom bowmaker, since passed. Bought it from the original owner. 61# draw weight.

A real English longbow has a draw weight approaching 300#. I think you want a war bow. Not many people in this age would be capable of using a longbow.

You're nowhere near being close and it was the reverse--the war bow had the heavier draw and that maxed out at around 200# and those where extremely rare amongst the archers with the norm being in the 150# to maybe 180#...Check the records from the Mary Rose.

Longbow or hunting bows where in the 60# to 80# range with the occasional ones at 100# or a bit over...They didn't have to kill deer at 275 yds. like a war bow did to unprotected soldiers at that range.

Remember that a war bow was drawn and loosed almost immediately but the crossbows of the time were stronger and shot farther just much slower.

I have a english war bow(big long bow) with #110 draw its a beast and price is some where in the ballpark of $500-600 ish I recomend rudder bows you can get do it yourself kits for less than $100
