Compared to the Brits, Rommel found the Aussies and NZer's impressive, yes, but it was the sucky Brit generals' fault. Heck, until Patton got there we weren't doing all that well ourselves.

Specifically, which territory do you speak of? The JIA and JIM occupied a number of of US territories. Probably the most notable was the Philippines. The Aleutian campaign was little more than a distraction.
