Can anyone recommend a good handheld radio that won't break the bank? Maybe around $200 for 3 handhelds. I have a Goal Zero 13 Solar panel and the AA battery pack to recharge from. Any suggestions or options that I should look for would be appreciated.
Yeah, depending on your needs, I also support the use of Baofeng UV-5R. There are tons of extras available for them at low cost too.
I highly recommend the battery adapter pack that lets you power them with AAs, the headset mike, the car charger, and an improved antenna...but the basic unit is pretty dang good on its own. You can easily get 4 for a little more than $200.
it has pretty much any question about the Baofeng's that you would have. Its a well put together site by a folks that have probably worked out every potential issue. Also, there is a baofeng yahoo and numerous FB pages.
i have two of these and once you master some of the quirks, its a nice piece of kit.
