I've been thinking about this for quite some time. I'm sure many of you have read this summary ('How Horiffic will it be for the non prepper).

We can all agree that over 90% of the population would perish within the month, no matter where they live, be it an urban setting, suburban or rural, or even "in the sticks."
In my opinion, a true survivalist must recognize that he needs a community in order to survive for an extended period of time. In this respect, the suburban setting has an advantage.
You can, and should already, have networked with other gun owners in your neighborhood. These should be decent people, who respect the Constitution of the United States. When SHTF, you're gun owning neighbors should be ready to erect barricades and monitor who enters and leaves the area.
Security from criminals and organized gangs will be the first priority in a suburban setting, these will kill you before you run out of water or food, as they will be searching for water and food.
Many suburban regions (such as mine), are located near fresh water sources. I have direct access to the Connetquot River, and the Connetquot State Park, which is OVERPOPULATED with deer due to liberal/leftie hunting bans.
Securing the fresh water sources and hunting grounds should be the next priority after community defense has been established.
There is almost always a few horse farms around a suburban town. When SHTF, see if the local horse owner is still there, if not, takes the horses, you're going to need them.
Finally, since 90% of these people will die (preferably less within the community you h ave secured), you'll have mountains of raw materials from abandoned houses, such as plywood, sheathing, shingles, copper (from pipes and lots of wires), car parts, cleansing agents, PROPANE and COAL (good if you have a forge and know how to blacksmith). You'll also have LOTS of open and sunlit land to farm, and probably lots of bags of fertilizer. The local stores and supermarkets will probably be FULL of materials that no one needed while they were dying, such as FRESH LUMBER, Aluminum, etc.
This to me is the ULTIMATE advantage of the suburban survivalist, and makes it worth all of the risk and disadvantages. You have nearly unlimited resources, without having to survive the "zombie swarm" by the hundreds of thousands that you would encounter in an urban setting.
Furthermore, since I am at the eastern most point of Long Island, the "Golden Horde" will never be a problem, since they will all flee west to the mainland.
I believe the greatest threat in my setting would be organized gangs (that already exist today, like MS13), who would definitely battle for control over the Connetquot River (fresh water source) and the deer.
Also, as a side note, if you do manage to secure a community with other gun owners, make sure everyone learns how to use a firearm, and possesses one of their own.
And finally, preserve the Right to Trial by Jury in all instances. Don't become a barbarian when SHTF or a local thug/tyrant, because I will take you type out.
***I also sincerely believe that living among a bunch of disarmed trendies is an advantage when SHTF, because it is unlikely that they will be able to kill me (while I am awake at least); with a Night Watch set up by your local community, it will be impossible for the desperate trendie to invade and harm you community.
I fear that in gun owning states, where just as many people are otherwise UNPREPARED when SHTF, you survival chances will be dramatically lower, because you'll be encountering desperate families and ad hoc "nomads" with guns, and will probably know how to aim.
