No, the Yugos don't have chromed bores, which I also much prefer , if possible.
While the Yugos are a bit "nicer", they're not discernably any better than the cheaper WASR's with chromed bores. And the Yugos have some non-standard dimensions that prohibit the use of standard after-market or military issue stocks (which isn't an issue, as long as you're happy with the ones that come on it).
I've long been a big AR fan,and still am, but in recent years have come to appreciate (and even prefer) AK's. If this was about getting a Colt, Bravo, etc. I wouldn't fault anyone for going with the AR, but I personally wouldn't recommend the cheapest damned AR out there, over a solid, proven AK. They're simple, robust, reliable, and the ammo is about 1/2 (or even less) of what AR ammo is currently running.
Also, as stated already, the heavier 1.5mm recievers on the AK are unnecessary over-kill, and don't do anything but add weight (I used to have a Yugo underfolder with the 1/5 reciever, and you could definitely tell the difference).
Another point, the latest WASR's are coming in with solid wood stocks, not the cheaper laminate (plywood) stocks they used to use. This stuff can easily and cheaply be refinished and made to look absolutely fantastic !! This wood takes stain very well, on my last one I went with a golden, yellow look rather than the more common "Russian red", and it looks awesome.
