not sure if it's maybe in my head but the recoil seems a bit snappy for 9mm maybe it was the reloads

The 908 was the "value" edition of the S&W 3913, which was often mentioned in older posts as the best cc pistol at the time.
I have a 3913 and everyone who's ever fired it, has loved it. If the recoil seems a bit harsh, it may be that the metal frame is not flexing like the polymer framed pistols do. I've put Hogue soft grips on mine, and it's very "comfy" shooting; I'm sure the same grips will fit the 908.
Only differences between the 3913 and the 908 are plastic sights on the 908, and a couple of other minor plastic parts, and the general fit & finish isn't as good on the 908.
Modern polymer guns are lighter, but those 3rd generation S&W pistols are classics, that just keep on going.
