It's an appalling case. I hope the sentence is overturned, ASAP.

OK, theres a lot of backstory in this situation, but the salient points are he broke the law, and he's been given a sentence about 1/3 the length given in similar cases. It's unfortunate, but his defence was weak, he pled guilty, job done.

Instead of lobbying for his release, I'd suggest starting a fund to help him once he gets out.

I think it beggars belief that a SAS member does not get a pistol firearms licence as standard. If SHTF and they need reservists what better to deploy on a moments notice

Times like this I really question the UKs ability to defend itself from threats foreign and withinf

Why do they need a firearms licence, they get issued a shooter when they need it.

But what you do if when SHTF your depo ain't there and are needed sharpish in a hostile zone

This is Britain you can't just ask the guy next door for his shotgun he won't have it or if by miracle he has he wount lend it to you ( the law is very strict on this). Invading Britian has never been so easy all our troops and munitions are abroad anyway

If the Island is about to be invaded, you'll have weeks if not months of warning, if your nuked, then bend over and say goodbye.

Seriously, if the crap was going to hit the fan, do you think this guy wouldn't be able to arm himself?

The situation is messed up, he was given a trophy, but as a SNCO, he would not only have known the rules, he would have instructed junior members in them. At a later date he had a brain injury, so his mates packed his bags and sent them home.

Lots of fails.

1. His mates should have notified the unit that a working firearm was in the consignment.
2. His unit should have inspected and inventoried his gear if he was unable to do so.
3. If he was able, he should have checked his kit, if not see 1 and 2.

I've heard the argument that he's SAS, he doesn't need to check his kit, or he's too busy but the mark of a professional soldier is in the details, the horse, the weapon, the man.

Ok..... How do you think our undercover ops get arms into any country not checked in or out. Alot goes both ways ie how much ordinance is going to Israel from USA right now is it monitored on a airways freight for all to see or in a regular military flight dropoff that's medi and armour supply's.

You don't want to tell any enemy or ally your business so spec ops wount be any different

I wasn't talking about customs. I was saying his mates should have inventoried his gear, the RQMS should have checked it in and signed it all off.

I couldn't give a damn about your internet confessions, I'm saying this man has been let down by the system, but he has to suffer the consequences of breaking the law.
