Thanks to another poster here I am reminded that I have a list to make and BOB to put together. My wife and I have not really put much effort into build in bob as we live the bugged out life. One can get complacent sitting in a farm fortress living the survival life. We carry small kits for trips into town and hunting ,fishing etc. But now we have a new problem. W e live in the middle area of the Lower peninsula of Michigan between 3 and 4 hours driving time from Detroit. W e have made plans to place a 24.5 foot cabin cruiser on Lake St. Clair for Muskie fishing. This boat will stay in a marina docked in a slip and we will drive to the boat and stay on it while we are in town. The Marina is fenced and safe and the area around St. Clair Shores is not dangerous as its north of Detroit. There is really no way home by water so if we get caught there in some event like an EMP getting home will be a real problem. If the car is dead we might have to walk out of this metropolis and cover half of the state of michigan to get home. I am considering keeping a couple of small bikes with tiny gas motors Right on the boat in the aft cabin. small chainsaw engines will push a 20 inch bike to 20 plus mph. 4 gallons of gas would almost get us home. These bikes could at least get us into safer areas away from the city. My wife says no way we cant afford to build two escape bikes but maybe we can.
Aside from the got to have items like two hand guns, small tent, water, water purification tablets, vitamins and food bars, lighters, para cord, knife, two flashlights, radio, batteries and bedding what else would you recommend we try to carry for this escape from Detroit scenario? This could take 4 to 5 days walking or up to 2 days traveling at 20 mph on gas powered bikes. W e both( my wife and I) have solid back packs . Another Ideas I had is try and find out what electronics would go down in my car if hit with an EMP and having spare parts in a small faraday cage on the boat. computer, ignition module etc. I really dont want to have to walk out of there.
