i tried the search option but no luck. ill keep looking and will post what i find. i live on the big island of hawaii and i dont think a bunker would be too feesible out here but imagine the project???? that would be alot of fun...........
Just remember rust eat's up Oxygen...so without real good "forced" ventilation, and good paints that prevent rust, you could be making the world's largest coffin. I wouldn't buy one that was already rusting out. And if you ever did seal yourself in one... well the rust, plus you breathing you could end up getting real sleepy, extra real sleepy. When the "stowaways" use'em for cheap travel fair, they drill holes like crazy all over them..and even that doesn't always save'em. They find DRT's all the time in shipping containers. . .this happens All The Time. Propane heat or cooking...DRT! Guys die in campers, and even house's just running a generator inside. Please think real long and hard about this. How can you seal yourself in, keeping the bad air out, and still have good air to breath? This has to be solved before you even begin to think about sealing yourself up he-he!.- WW
ps. FORCED VENTILATION, with back-up power, and filters.

They are not made to be put underground..As stated in post #8 they will rust and with the added pressure of the ground around it someday it will just cave in....I have worked in mines for about 8 years now and have limited experience compared to a full time life long miner but that is my opinion...Thanks for listening...
any old military bunkers left on the big island , i loved that place when i was there in the 60s they rolled up the sidewalks at 10 pm back then and hilo was a small town, pretty laid back life style at the time.to bad i didnt stay.
there arent too many out here anymore. but there are lots of old sugar mills with indoor water supply, concrete construction, etc. if SHTF thats where im headed.
In a previous post someone said that a shipping container
"Its kind of a "poor mans Bunker"." If people can obtain one cheap although I have seen them for $2,000 and more not including transportation and installation which is still way too much more $ for my budget. My biggest expense was good remote well located mountain land.
Here is a thread about buried containers although I would not believe all they posted such as five feet of dirt is ok on top. Need a strong roof with logs or concrete even for a foot or two but this is one thread for those interested > http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=9158
Must be one of those "crazy" survivalist types - my kinda guy :thumb:
Here is the link to a couple members of the survivalistboards who have mtn retreats etc. and the "crazy" survivalist guy Joes was talking about. IF any say they are survivalists and think that those who have built bunkers etc. are crazy or even that bunkers are a crazy idea then I would say they are Not true survivalists!
I have seen people say this quite a few times over the years in several discussion groups. Surely those who have ridiculed bunkers and even underground storm shelters will wish they had one if a tornado, attack, fallout should ever occur? In the following thread link I tell and show quite a bit but not Everything. I also have access to a neighbor/employer's fancy cabin with the key. He said I could use it in case of emergency. If the SHTF etc. he would stay in his fancy acreage in N. Colorado and I and/or a friend or two of mine If they make it up, would have this cabin. As my avatar says I am prepared for Anything or at least am trying to be. And I have not even told half.... My mtn land is very remote and I think will be safe from most scenarios, including the flu epidemic that appears to be coming soon. The link that many have seen but possibly few really like > http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=52880
Hope some like this post for it took me around an hour to create it with, I think, good info...
I like the large diameter ,galvanized drain culvert pipe idea best . No need for reinforcement. Just weld up the ends.install vents, coat with tar and bury.
I remember reading about some people growing marijuana in buried shipping containers, or they could've been those truck containers, in Canada. Might want to google that.
Look for the book "No Such Thing As Doomsday". It discusses many issues/ideas related to using them. It's an expensive but valuable book though...
