Been looking into getting a shipping container lately. Wanting to get 2 20's but 1 40 seems cheaper.
Where would be the best place to pick one up, I am about 2hr drive from houston. I was thinking driving down to the docks & seeing about buying one on the cheap but unsure who to talk to & how do I get it back?
Around here there are companies that deal in containers. We just bought a 40' in good condition, newly painted with a side door for $4500 delivered. I've also seen 20' in fair but very usable condition needing a coat of paint for $1800 delivered.
You mentioned going down to the docks to see if you could buy a container. In our experience, most of the ones at the docks or port are spoken for or not yet available for resale. So you probably need to find a reputable reseller.
The National Portable Storage Association is worth a look. www.npsa-us.org.
You never know what you are going to get on Craigslist and we find that many of the local towing or container delivery companies don't want to get involved in moving other people's containers.
With a storage container company like ours (Simple Box Storage) a customer may end up paying $200 more than what they see a container on Craigslist or elsewhere for, but you get a dedicated team helping you get your container delivered to the right place and you can come by the yard and choose your own Box, rather than buying it sight unseen.
