With the end exposed? We have a few around here for sale, and I looked at that option, but I dunno. As for re-inforcement, some smaller I-beam sections for the roof would do it. In a 20 footer I would do three smaller inside trusses, evenly spaced, that would hold I'm fairly certain.
Just make sure the trusses have verticals and some load bearing plates on the floor. Not hard at all. These things were made to bear weight on the corners and perimeter mostly. Hell, lots of plans out there. Anotherthing to consider is a nice exterior coating before you cover it for rust protection. Lot of spray on options out there.
Found me one.Spray sounds good what do you suggest to spray on outside.I was thinking railroad ties and 1 inch treated plywood on roof outside on top and still do tresses inside.
Sprayway is an automotive rust proofing sealant, ames makes a rubberized sealant for basements, etc, do a search for superior industries coatings, theymake a good one. I'd reinforce the inside, don't bother with the rail ties and plywood outside, just a waste.
why not use the rubberized, fiber roof coatings they put on roofs and rv's? i've seen it in white, gray, and black 5 gal pails. roll or brush it on covering all 4 sides before it is buried. that should help with corrosion problems.
just a thought.
Before you put anything else on it, look into a rust conversion paint. It chemically bonds with the old rust and turns it into an inert paintable surface. My boss let some steel ramps rust behind the shed then we shot them with some stuff we got from Home Depot before painting them bright yellow. They were stored outside and never showed any sign of further rust.
On the down side the stuff is fairly expensive.
