At a church I served in, we needed inexpensive decorations for baby showers and this is what we did:
We requested all empty baby food jars with or without lids. We wound up with almost 3 thousand. I thought I'd die. LOL
So....
baby jars are awesome to decorate a runner on a long table. You can alternate one with a flower, then one with a candle, then one with mints or nuts.
For a larger centerpiece we used a cupcake display stand and used both blooms and vines that trailed down onto the lower levels.
We tinted the jars with elmers glue mixed with food coloring. You can paint inside or outside of the jar depending on your use. (If you're doing a vase tint on the outside)
Prizes or party gifts placed inside then little fabric baby bonnets made great displays and added color.
We made hanging chandeliers with circles of wood that we simply screwed a large screw into then FIRMLY twisted a double wire to. The wire came down like a handle to join with a wire we wrapped around the neck of the baby food jar.
We put a piece of fruit in a jar then added liquid jello, then cooled. with the topping on it it's so cute as a single serving. Pudding can be done the same way. We also did ice cream and let the ladies put on their own toppings. That shower was VERY popular. LOL
We put LED lights in the jars and sat them around the patio.
We took a mason jar, painted it white, gave it ribbons for feathers and a ribbon beak then wiggle eyes. Around it we put baby food jars painted yellow with yellow ribbon feathers and wiggle eyes. Mama hen and her chicks.
We also did some children's crafts with them. We made dogs, cats, bunnies and some other animal I can't recall. We filled the inside with shredded colored paper then glued the wiggle eyes, ears, faces etc on.
You can paint them, either with a brush or just dip them.
We wound up using the lights, candles vases for other events as well as baby showers.
