Magna Carta is essentially our bill of rights that has been adapted and altered through the years.......America's is just ultra modern and covers things that seem more relevant.

You are wrong. We have the Bill of Rights 1689. It formed the model (as well as Magna Carta) for the US Bill of Rights.
http://www.parliament.uk/about/livin.../billofrights/ Incidentally we also have a plethora of rights bestowed upon us from membership of the EU imported into UK law. http://eur-lex.europa.eu/en/treaties...N.01000101.htm |

Well to be fair you stated we had nothing similar and then state that what we gave you was too old. Like I said in my post America is a VERY modern creation. So what if our original bill of rights was 1215. People fought and died for that just as in America but its a fair more special creation. Id go as fair as to argue that it was the begining of modern democracy!! There are a HELL of a lot of rights present in that that you or any other demorcratic country will take for granted.
Give your friend a ring and tell him you were wrong lol |

Well, as a Brit, you don't have any Pre-SHTF, so Post SHTF, shoot for the Moon! Full Auto for everybody! With Suppressors too, and that shoulder thingy that goes up!!!

This would be my consitution.
- You may do whatever you want, unless your actions cause direct of indirect harm or loss to any other person and their property. - If you take something from nature, you must put something back in its place. I think that covers just about everything. |

would love to get my hands on a version of these document to make sure when we set up our SHTF community that these rights are preserved ... the whole topic was about preserving rights during SHTF and any alterations people would make to suit the SHTF world |

This, at least, is within your grasp. You're online, find them, print them, print extra copies. Start asking students in your family if they are learning about them, get discussion going.

Preliminary:
[] Governments grant privileges (often mistakenly called rights) [] People are endowed with rights by their (c)reator(s). The "Right to life" includes all harmless actions in support of that right, as well as harmful actions in defense of that life while under attack. The "Right of locomotion" (aka "personal liberty") is the right to travel upon public roads and waterways, limited only in respecting the rights of other travelers. The "Right to absolutely own" without permission of another is one of the attributes of the republican form of government enjoyed by Americans. In all other nations, the people are subjects, and do not absolutely own. Furthermore, in socialist / communist nations, private property (absolute ownership) is abolished, and replaced by qualified ownership, with the State's interest paramount. NATURAL RIGHTS - ... are the rights of life, liberty, privacy, and good reputation. - - - Black's Law Dictionary, Sixth Ed., p. 1324 |

Lol at the poster above, I love the USA but some of you really need a reality check
As for our bill of rights it's in the magna carter, the so called common law. It boils down to 3 laws You shall not physically or mentally harm, wound, or kill another unless acting in defence You shall not steal, vandalise or sell another's goods You shall not bear false witness, lie, be fraudulent or make gain at others expensive without thier knowledge These are not all what common law is on about ( ever heard the term common law wife/husband) Also if you get manhandled by a cop for no reason and the cop says he is looking for a person of your discription and emptys your pockets without any real proff that you have comited said crime then he has broken all 3 of the oldest laws in the uk. So look up common law it's a good read and quite opposite to the UK limited we have today |

Here are the Basic Rights I would want to preserve for British Citizens ...
F. R. E. E. D. [ Freedom ] All Persons have the Right to Life, Liberty and Security. All Persons are Born Free & Equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of mutual respect. [ Religion ] All persons are free to practice any Religion of their choosing without judgement, limitation or interference. [ Equality ] All Person shall be Treated Equally. No person shall be discriminated against due to ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, language or disability. [ Expression ] All Persons shall be Allowed to Speak their Opinions without Interference [ Defence ] All Persons are Free to use reasonable force to Defend Themselves or Others. All Persons can Prevent Damage or Theft of Property using reasonable force. Thoughts ? |

The problem with the UK is we don't have a codified constitution with a bill of rights, therefore the government can do what it wants essentially, we have no real freedom of speech for example, look at all the twitter/Facebook prosecutions recently, never would have happened in the USA because of the 1st amendment.

All this talk of written rights, Magna Carta, or what ever. To be blunt it's just so much B.S.
A persons immediate rights post SHTF will be decided by the victor i.e. the strongest, meanest, SOB left standing. Any form of paper proclaiming otherwise now, today, will ultimately be demoted (or more usefully promoted) to loo roll. Long term? As soon as some sort of "new" declaration of rights is drafted the doom clock will restart the count down to the next SHTF as the person(s) drafting it will be forming a government and governments probably would have caused the first SHTF anyway. |

I feel that post SHTF it would be every man/women for him/herself, me personally I would do whatever I could to protect my family and ensure there survival in the first instance.
However! As for human rights i would be taking a more modern approach to the ridiculously out dated laws we have now i.e gun/knife law I would give everyone real free speech with effective channels to be heard the legal backing to protect themselves and others |
