Canvas evaporative cooling water bags

Dragon's post about the Coolgardie meat safe reminded me of my father and grandfather using the old canvas / hessian water bags in the bush.

He and my dad also had the waterbags hanging from the front bumpers of their cars. I remember drinking from them as a small boy, and enjoying the coolness and the not unpleasant 'hessiany' taste of the water.

Anyone know if these are still made and where they can be had? Anyone still using them.

Ah, nostalgia ain't what it used to be

They are still available at most camping retailers and some diposal stores.
If you purchase one, let it soak in a bucket of water for a few days, before using it.
They are very good.
Another tip, if you want hot water in the bush, strap a length of PVC pipe with end caps, tap and filler spout to the bull bar or hood rack (exposed to the sun).
Paint the external surface of the PVC pipe black to absorb the solar heat.
