Heck yeah. I couldn't help myself the other day and started two different types of tomatoes, basil (companion to tomatoes), brussels sprouts, and ground cherries. I have my mustard greens, okra, and two types of summer squash seeds ordered..onions are in the ground already!

FOREWARNED FOLKS....

http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/

There's a large chunk of this country still suffering from drought effects. If your region is still low on snowfall, that means your region won't get the snow melt necessary to break out of this pattern.

I'm seriously concerned of another really bad drought summer.

My garden thread is started! It's been pinned so it's right on top in this forum. So far it's just my seedling starting area; still a bit early for plants. Getting there though!

The area of North Missouri that I live in continues to be over 20 inches below the normal rainfall levels. Lakes, ponds are about 3 to 4 feet below normal levels. A mild winter like this year with little rain and snowfall will not help the spring moisture levels at all. The drought is not over for us even though you are not hearing about it in the media. It is not looking good. My plans are to get as much in as early as possible to take advantage of any spring rain because that will probably be my only opportunity and then plant drought tolerant and heat loving crops. LOTS of mulch and all the rain barrels out to take advantage of the few rainfalls if any that we do get.

Here in Southern OK the Red River looks like a dessert. We are WAY behind on rainfall. You can tell because we are the Bright Red ones on the map...LOL!

I started my seeds today, well, some of them anyway.

Last night during the football game the wife and I plotted on paper an additional herb garden. We are itching to get our hands dirty. Last years garden was good to us.

Tonight we will order our seeds. Short grow season here so we plant, then transplant.
I did an herb garden one year, then when I started using raised beds I started to put them in the boxes with the rest of the veggies for pest control. It's been working pretty well.

I am also wanting to start seeds indoors now. Hoping I can do that as well this weekend. This will be my 2nd attempt at a garden. last year it just burned up or the eggplants & cantolope & peppers rotted before they finished growing. I am learning from my mistakes, and hoping I'll be more successful this year. Also hoping to get a few chickens. Have to figure out how to "hide" that being in the city. AND manage peace between the chickens and the dogs. LOL I have lots & lots to learn!
I have not had a garden in about 10 years so looking forward to trying to have one again if I can keep the cats out lol. I would like to have chickens but cats are another problem and though I live at the end of a dead end street with pasture behind me, I still live in the city. I know where your coming from. I love going to pintrest and looking for neat ways to do gardening on apt. patio's, it gives new ideas to get the most out of little spaces. Good luck this year !

I think the fence is a great idea! My property is an oasis for deer, open fields with old growth woods on three sides and a small stream running around the wood line....not that im complaining, my bow does gets alot of use. I have a 5 foot fence with a gate big enough to fit my New Holand through. The deer will only sneak in there if I left the gate open. I have a trail cam set up and havent seen then hope the fence to get in, only to get out when the gates open...opps! Good luck!!!

My 2012 garden made it through the winter, so I guess Ill start another plot on the south side of the property, does that count as starting.

I'm in.

I'll be trying one for the first time this year.
Just picked up a bunch of seeds.

I'm really looking forward to it. I need to learn how to do this.
It's another hole in my game that needs to be fixed.

I've been hoping for snow, or freezing rain, or whatever I can get, but this winter is looking as bad as last year, just colder. The ponds and sloughs across the county are all bone dry, so it is going to take a lot of precip to get the fields back up.
