Might ditch my M1A for a FAL.
I have an M4 but would not grab it in a survival situation. Its good for clean enviornments but if SHTF I have better things to do than clean it everytime it gets dirty.
I believe in two go to rifles. An assault rifle and a defending your position rifle. The first involves higher mobility, room entrees etc and the second is for holding your ground and moving to fall back positions.
I currently use an AK 47 but will be switching to a Sig 556 with a suppressor, ACOG, x300 Light, bipod, and sling. This thing will run when I need it to. Sure the accuracy is not as good as an M4 but it will run everytime I pull the trigger. This will be my assault rifle.
Now I need to work on a defensive rifle. I have an M1A standard and love it.
My main concern is that the FAL will run much longer in much worse conditions with less cleaning. Granted any rifle needs to be cleaned but I prefer the one that needs less. I want it for a survival rifle to defend a postion. Im going to be tired, hungrey, and the last thing I want is a rifle that needs to be cleaned durring down time.
I love my M1A but was wondering what advantages a FAL would have? Is one more reliable than the other in extended, woodlands, (rain, snow, mud, dirt, etc), conditions?
I am looking at a full size M1A and full size FAL.
Maybe I will keep my M1A and buy a super match. I want to have a suppressed .308 with optics but it needs to run every time I pull the trigger. If reliability is similar I will stick with the M1A and trick it out.
I am an average shooter and not a sniper by any means. Therefore a simple acog or magnified eotech is all I would use. I want a supre reliable .308 rifle.
