Default When dogs take a dump, do they face north?

Advertise Here

I heard about this yesterday. I remember walking my dad's dog and he faced north, but that was in the 1970s.

If there is a group that might have a dog and a compass (or at least know magnetic north); this might be the group.

It's the opposite when south of the equator.....much like the toilets down below the equator, South American dogs go the other direction.

No, at least mine don't.

I know one of my dogs stepped in the others pile once and went just about crazy trying to wipe it off her foot in the grass. I laughed so hard I cried.

My toilet is situated so that I face north when I take an obama. Just thought I'd share...

My dog most often faces south when doing his business. I think two reasons contribute: 1) the yard has a downward slope toward the south so when he squats his rear legs, his body is balanced, 2) there are two unfriendly dogs 3 yards down and this allows him to keep an eye out in that direction when most vulnerable.

I never thought about it before it was posted last week. So, I paid attention for a few days - nope the bulldog doesn't care what direction she is pointing.

how about this home grown theory:
they tend to face into the prevailing wind. they sniff the air for possible threats to their current situation.
mine goes out, makes at least a couple of complete turns, looking and sniffing the air. then she faces into the wind to do her business. this is the only 'animal instinct' reason i can think of.

I heard about it too and had to check with this dog. She lines up north-south or south-north. I was actually quite surprised.

"When dogs take a dump"

Why is the phrase take or takes a dump?

My dogs do their business in my fenced in back yard. They face multiple directions when they go. My yard is also flat as a pancake so that is not a consideration. My dogs will do a circle before they go as an instinct to make sure the area is safe. I never paid attention to how they point with regards to the wind. Hope it helps.

What's the deal with kicking up the dirt with their hind leggs when they are done?

That's to spread their scent to mark their territory.

My dog faces into the wind. Based on the way my house smelled that time he dropped a deuce on my rug I think he does it so he doesn hafta smell it.

No, they don't.

I consider myself an expert on dog excrement as I clean up, on average, 40 piles of dog **** a day. They face whatever direction they were facing when it shoots out, usually. Some of the little *******s walk it across the entire floor, and some of the, insist on ****ting on the walls.
