Guys in NASCAR get caught cheating they laugh about getting caught and move on.
Armstrongs problem wasn't that he cheated, it was the decade of denial. He denied and denied. He denied under oath, denied every moment of every day. Witnesses lined up saying he did, no they are all lying, I am the great and mighty Armstrong. The tests were wrong, it was all a conspiracy, etc, etc. Only after they stripped him off all his titles, banned him for life, and even may go after all the money he made. Only then could finally say yea I lied to everybody for so long. They made a big deal about his admission, like it was some surprise revelation. He only admitted it hoping for some leniency, not because he is an upstanding guy. |

He admitted his guilt just today to Oprah. He is doing this in hopes of being able to compete in sanctioned running events. The federation is playing ball because they want to know HOW he managed it . It seems that many, many people were part of it-many doctors.
I, myself lost all respect for him today. I believed in him in the worst way. He disgraced himself and America Now the French can really talk ****. I hate that part... |

Yea come on guys you know we all want our athletes bigger, stronger, faster. Who watches women's sports? Who watched the infamous XFL Football league? Who watches the NBA development league?
Exactly!!! I remember going to a Big 12 basketball tournament in OKC some years back, they had men's and women's going at the same time. Called it 72 steps or something, 72 steps from the men's courts to the women's. Tixs to men's $75.00 to $350.00 depending on the game. $5.00 to $15.00 for women's, still couldn't sell the women's. I remember McGuire and Sosa banging em out and how excited everyone was, hell we all knew they were roided out but who cared, they smashed Maris record and no one cared how they did it. When McGuire was at bat the networks broke in to regular tv so everyone could see it. No one cared till the black man Bonds smashed the redheaded wonders record!!! Then it all turned ugly, how dare the ****** smash McGuires record that easy, damn him. Bonds ruined everything that was pure about Americas Game, damn him, baseball will never be the same. Yea we want them bigger, stronger, faster we just don't want to know how they got there. Me, I don't care what they take. I just want them to be the best product out there, cause otherwise it might as well be Women's sports. |

Rumor has it that most of his competitors were also using. If that's true it would still have been somewhat of a level playing field. Just not a legit contest of raw human athletics.

The commission had a 1000 page report on Armstrongs doping. Full of piles of witness testimony. People that he went after for saying anything, some he even sued under slander laws. I remember him saying it was all some vast conspiracy to get rid of him because he won so much.
And actually he did fail some drug tests, samples taken during the 99 event. His claim was the french were out to get him, or that the tests were done wrong, etc, etc. And I pulled this from a news article "The 15-page letter sent to Armstrong alleged that the blood samples from 2009 and 2010 were "fully consistent with blood manipulation, including EPO use and/or blood transfusions." Although this was not a confirmation of a positive test, instead, the USADA saw red flags with the tampering of the blood tests and banned him." Sounds like the kind of stuff pot heads do to pass drug tests at probation. If he hadn't tried to say for so long he was clean and everybody else was dirty for so long, might have been different. |

The general public seems to have some serious misconceptions about the substances in question, why people use them and what they do.
This stuff is only really beneficial to people who are pretty much already at the top of their game. It's expensive to obtain and difficult to use correctly. It's also dangerous to use because it has significant negative health side-effects. It's very difficult to enforce rules against using the substances which are supposedly banned for most sports competitors. People are always going to find a way if they're really motivated. IMO, if someone thinks it's so important that they use something that has the potential to cause irreparable bodily harm, then why should anyone stop them? Obviously there's a fire somewhere and they're rushing to put it out. |
