Default What Did You Learn From The Paralympics and Olympics

Advertise Here

As the title said, what did you learn from having the Paralympics and Olympics on our door steps?

For me I thoroughly enjoyed them both from the sofa, and remembered my very keen drive at the age of 6 to get a Gold medal at the games. Since I went to a series of totally rubbish schools I was never given the chance to shine but also due to coming from a poor family.

A lot of those who are athletes rely on parents ferrying them to training, meets, abroad etc and we just never had that sort of money. I wonder how many more kids out there can't follow their dreams because of family finances.

Theres lots I want to try and get Dad into like wheel chair basketball etc. I wonder if they do wheelchair footie - he was a good football player in his teens and would have gone professional if not for an injury.

It's also taught me about a lot of disabilities, I'm pretty savy because of my illness but it is always interesting to see more.

Lastly, it taught me that some people just do crap opening and closing ceremonies and that you can't have both which was a realy shame. I wasn't impressed with the Cold Play concert being wrapped up as the Paralympics closing ceremony last night. If I wanted to see them in concert I would have got a ticket for one, and not sat up late to watch the ceremony. Maybe I'm just showing my age.

I am really looking forward to Brazil, and hope to follow the Paralympians in between, they are just soooooo inspirational. It has also helped me to keep motivated to work on my health and fitness.

I didn't so much learn anything but I did have a couple of personal beliefs reaffirmed,

Where's there's life there's hope and Anything's possible if you set your mind to it.

Should TSHTF, I could grab a paralympic sprinter, take his blades from him and use it as a type of atlatl.

I also thought, although I only watched the biathlon, that I would rather watch an Olympics where they can take any performance enhancing substance they want.

Well my warped mind thought how many people uk are claiming a disability benefit. I'm sorry but if you can talk on telly you can work in a call centre or on blades you can be in house messenger boy/girl. Swimming ok clean the tanks of marine centres I don't see any difference in being employed if you have the what is needed

now I'm sick of people claiming they are on disability benefit because they want a free ticket. I've seen far worse affected (and no disrespect) trying to do some thing with there lifes and I bow to them

I learned that what worked in Rome, works today. Dazzle the proletariat with a spetacal and they'll totally forget about the mess they are faced with on a daily basis!

I also learned that the same people who were euphoric about the games because the daily mail told them to be will be up in arms at the public spending cuts that will have to pay for it...but only when the Mail tells them to be.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old git...maybe!

i leant many things,

the BBC IS TOTALLY COUROUPT with little or no showing of some of our finest sports like shooting etc

most modern sports people want shooting for having there heads so far up there own back sides its appalling

but most of all, pretty well everyone how took part in the PARA games were truely amazing to see and watch, if there is ever a by word for the true face of sportsmanship or keeping the ideals of true hard work going it has to be the para games by a long way.

There was a stabbing near the Olympic park but I cannot find any reference to a stabbing at the Olympic park.

Sticks it was at the o2 north greenwich arena, fortunatly after the basketball events had finished. Still should never have happened, they knew the clubs were trouble but still decided to keep them open.
