Default My New Bug In Airstream Camper....

Advertise Here

I thought you folks would enjoy seeing my latest prep item... My neighbor offered to sell me his 1968 24' TradeWind Airstream camper. It has been sitting under a shaded area for seven years. His family had used it all the time but got busy raising the kids. It is really in solid shape, unblemished and original down to the interior. Since I don't currently own a fullsize truck, I pulled it out with my 61 Willy's Jeep.
It has since been washed down and cleaned up. It shines like a new penny. I like the camo look in this pic..LOL.

I bought it with the intent to resell but now I think I'm going to keep it for a spare bedroom, recreation or as SHTF emergency housing. It sleeps four comfortably, has a 4 burner propane stove and oven, fridge, furnace, sink, shower and toilet.

I don't plan on bugging out because of where I live but this gives me some good options for whatever I chose plus I can make some money on it as an investment.

Nice. Maybe you should add some brown and black swaths and she will be fully camo.

Very cool. Go check out rv.net/forums and you will learn a bunch there about RVing. They have a section on Travel Trailers.

Very nice!

I have fond memories of those. My Grandparents had one and would winter down in the Valley in Texas. Those things are great!!!!

Good job!

totally jelly of your trailer. My uncle has a 24' airstream he has totally modernized/restored, I love the thing. I would like to own one, alas, I dont see it in the books for a few years though.

Methinks you done went and did good!!!

One thing on airstreams - they run on rubber torsion bar axles that go soft after a number of years. You can get the replacement axles for them, and if the trailer is 20 years old or older likely the axle rubbers are shot. As a BOC (bug out cabin) the last thing you want is to not be able to get a blown tire off because it won't clear the side of the trailer!

Otherwise you can't go wrong with an airstream - damn fine quarters!

Thanks for the replies. I removed the original seat covers and drapes and had them cleaned.
Like my cars, I want to keep it all original. Should have it back together tomorrow. I'll post a pic of the interior in the next day or so.

Wow, that's great! I don't know if you have kids, but if you do, the teenagers will kill to live in it. They love being "on their own" even if it's in the driveway. LOL. Good score!

Default Looks like our old one :)

We had that same vintage back when I was a teen (eons ago). We used it at the beach all summer and every spring and fall we would take it to the mountains of Virginia.

Years later it became my brother's college "pad" -good times

Sadly, it was lost in a barn fire where it was stored waiting for him to come home from the service

Gosh, you got quite the deal on that. Enjoy, it's a keeper

Last pic with awning up. Next week I'm building level area for it on my property below the house, run power to it and we are good to go for an extra bedroom.
