You know, I'm actually really sad about this. It's a little like losing more of the memory of a grandpa all over again. I know that sounds dramatic but you'd have to have been there.

And now, how many kids won't get that intro to those little foil packages of sweet and unallowed delight by their own grandpa when mom leaves them with the g-parents for a visit. I just think that's sad.

Edited to add: Hostess is a very high paying company after the union wrung their necks when I was a kid. Dolly Mad is in the town I went to after my parents divorce. Even back then they were making bank. It just got worse. Extremely high pay for standing on a line. And it used to be a joke that they would just let stuff miss the line so they could take it home. Used to be a mountain of that stuff at the ends of the lines each day they would go through. Employees did this. No pity for them from me.

So a "fire sale" on Hostess stuff may be coming up...anyone know the shelf life of their products...would be cool to burn a $100 bill on a prep of say 500 individual snacks....but then again I'd put on 20lbs by sneakin' into my preps a few times a day.

For the state of Maine this is not good. The Hostess plant in Southern Maine employes 300 people. This announcement comes on the heals of Shaws Supermarkets announcing a week or so ago the they are laying off 700 New England workers and Garelick Farms announcing the closing of a milk production plant in Maine leaving 35 jobless and who knows how many farms will be affected by this closure.

Now all those strikers can go picket the union bosses homes. Sad to see Hostess fall, and while I feel for those who didn't strike and lost their jobs as well, I have no pity for the rest. In life you have a choice and must weigh the outcome of your decisions carefully, something which the union failed to do.

Bully tactics are failing, and they failed to see this.
