You know, I'm actually really sad about this. It's a little like losing more of the memory of a grandpa all over again. I know that sounds dramatic but you'd have to have been there.

And now, how many kids won't get that intro to those little foil packages of sweet and unallowed delight by their own grandpa when mom leaves them with the g-parents for a visit. I just think that's sad.

Edited to add: Hostess is a very high paying company after the union wrung their necks when I was a kid. Dolly Mad is in the town I went to after my parents divorce. Even back then they were making bank. It just got worse. Extremely high pay for standing on a line. And it used to be a joke that they would just let stuff miss the line so they could take it home. Used to be a mountain of that stuff at the ends of the lines each day they would go through. Employees did this. No pity for them from me.

Michelle told Barack he couldnt help them. Fattie cakes are detrimental to our children and health is more important then a few thousand union jobs....

Sorry to hear about Hostess as most of us that are over 40 slobbered over them every time we were at a gas station or super market from ages 4 til today!

Yep, give me the snowballs, twinkies, dingdongs, and my all time favorite "Suzy Q Oh baby I love you".

Maybe the union folks will go to work for some "healthy food" places and package apple and orange slices and the like...Oh wait the Mexicans have that market cornered!

So a "fire sale" on Hostess stuff may be coming up...anyone know the shelf life of their products...would be cool to burn a $100 bill on a prep of say 500 individual snacks....but then again I'd put on 20lbs by sneakin' into my preps a few times a day.
Hope they don't go to "work" for someone else and break them too

Bet those union members wish they had their union dues back now that their income is gone.

Now, they can collect and get about 50% of their wages, for doing nothing. So, do they work and get 92% of their pay, or do nothing and get 50% of their pay? Maybe, they'll also be eligible for Obama phones, rental assistance, food stamps, childcare eligibility, educational assistance and other government benefits. It sounds like they're probably better off now.

For the state of Maine this is not good. The Hostess plant in Southern Maine employes 300 people. This announcement comes on the heals of Shaws Supermarkets announcing a week or so ago the they are laying off 700 New England workers and Garelick Farms announcing the closing of a milk production plant in Maine leaving 35 jobless and who knows how many farms will be affected by this closure.

Maine voted for Obama. They'll get what's coming to them.

''Hostess Brands Inc., the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, said it had sought court permission to go out of business after failing to get wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its striking bakery workers,
Hostess said a national strike by members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union that began last week had crippled its ability to produce and deliver products at several facilities''

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...mEaE5HU3eWy__A

now the union can enjoy all the wage and benifit packages that unemployment and welfare has to offer, not to mention forclosure assistance

no ones hiring twinkie and ho ho bakers.......morons!

Maybe Hostess will put on their unemployment report that they quit.

I think Hostess had about 600 workers in Illinois where they had 2 plants.

And I bet every one of them voted for Obama.

Now all those strikers can go picket the union bosses homes. Sad to see Hostess fall, and while I feel for those who didn't strike and lost their jobs as well, I have no pity for the rest. In life you have a choice and must weigh the outcome of your decisions carefully, something which the union failed to do.

Bully tactics are failing, and they failed to see this.
