Wife's e-mail hacked?

My wife has a g-mail account and this morning at 3:18am (when she was asleep) an e-mail was sent from her account to her work e-mail, my personal e-mail, and my dad's work e-mail. All the e-mail had in it was this link...

So I tried googling for any type of hacks or malicious-related activity to this site but didn't come up with anything. The website itself seems a bit odd, and if you click on the link it says some generic message like "You are here because one of your friends wanted to share this with you..." something like that, then a couple seconds later my chrome browser said it couldn't find what it was looking for.

Any thoughts? Should I be worried that I clicked the link?

I certainly am not. It might be a virus or malware.

Well I just did a whole pc scan with AVG and it didn't find any threats, so hopefully it's right.

Do you have a fireawall? Is AVG up-to-date and properly configed?

Most likely an e-mail was sent to every address in her address list, and yes it is most likely a virus. AVG virus protection " the free one " doesn't always have the latest virus definitions. 10 Years ago the "code red" virus spred like wild fire and did the same thing, it would send it's self out through infected computers e-mail. Depending on what it is it may not do anything until you reboot your system or it may lay dorment until a set time when it will send all your personal info to the person who wrote it, or kill your hard drive. Most likely the first option. I hope not but it sure sounds like it to me. your best bet is to turn it off and get it to someone who can clean it. Hope this helps.

It's the free AVG and is up to date.

I just noticed that the Norton suite thing that Comcast provides isn't working. I can't open it, and when I try to specifically run the scan part of it, it gives me an error. I tried to uninstall it through control panel > programs but wouldn't uninstall.

I didn't download the AVG until after it happened...

Looking at the source of that page, its trying to forward you to http://onlinenewmarket.com/?12/1

which seems busted. I'd change her password and maybe take a second look at her "trivia questions" for gaining access to that account.

Check if the email is actually sent from your IP or if it just used a bogus sender.

Somehow ppl are getting peoples passswords..... I have had 4 or 5 friends on Yahoo get thier password compromised (One got his compromised 2 times) and 1 on gmail.......

I have a friend that uses AVG and he has had the same problem in the past with Gmail. I deleted all of my Google accounts long ago.

Download the free malwarebytes malware scanner. Even Norton does not find what malwarebytes does. Do a full scan, it can take a couple hours if you have a lot on your computer.

download this, unzip to a folder or flash drive. you will need to run a deep scan. this thing found 9 issues on my computer when the others reported it was clean.

She has probably had her email account compromised on the google side. I would imagine all her saved addresses where sent this. Free email accounts do not have the level of security that a service provided emial account does. Change email password and anything else on her profile related such as the securty questions.

This could also be a case of email spoofing. Do a google search for it and you will find more information

I would also try Malwarebytes for a scan (free version)

My kapersky anti virus locked right up and denied access! It states the site is infected with a Trojan malware.
