Default Remington model 12 issues

Got my great-great grandfathers Remington model 12 pump action .22 and I tried running some Federal bulk. 22 ammo through it and didn't have any consistent luck with it both feeding from the tube to the chamber or ejecting a round from the chamber. The only time it would eject was with just 1 round in the chamber. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these rifles or any ideas before I decide to take it to a gunsmith. Just hoping for an easy fix! Thanks!

You might post over at They have a Remington forum and the model 12 is discussed a lot. I hope you can get it running right. They are great old guns.
