Rossi Matched Pistol - 22LR/.410/45LC

Anyone have any experience with this little guy? 11" single shot barrel on a pistol frame, with the "matched pair" barrels of 22LR/.410 like the rest of Rossi's matched pair line.

Theoretically this could be a perfect pack "rifle" as it's got 22LR for small game, .410 for small game/water fowl/personal protection, then finally .45LC for larger game (more for defense IMO), and personal defense. All this in a very small, compact frame.

Just curious if anyone's gotten to use one of these before and what their experience has been. I also keep getting mixed reports thru online searches whether the .410/45LC barrel is smooth or rifled.

As a pack solution I would see it as lacking. Quite heavy to haul out and the varying ammo types would not be optimal either.

For far less weight/bulk you can cover yourself with a dedicated .22lr pistol on 90% of what you would want to harvest as game in a packing solution. If you wanted to be able to expand yourself out to larger game then you would also need the skill and tools to be able to process/preserve/prepare that game.

For defense you want your 'defense' to be ready whenever you would need it. Which means, all the time since nobody can guess when they might happen (if ever).

If you were out potting squirrels and you ran into a defensive situation you would not be able to move back into a different barrel and get your 1 shot off in time to save yourself (in general).

It is going to be a better solution to have a dedicated defensive platform on you at all times even if it means you do not carry much ammo for it (since you most likely will not need it anyways).

my guess is the .45LC/.410ga barrel is rifled. Rossi/Taurus make the pistol and rifle versions (and the Taurus Judge) sold in Brasil smoothbore, due to gun laws restricting the .45LC
there are other versions of it around here, being shotgun only, on 28,32 and 36 (.410) gauges. they look pretty cool.

back to topic, I didn't shot one yet, altough would like very much.
seems like an all-around pack, for doing almost anything. it may no be the best, but gets the job done. IMO the pistol (garrucha) configuration is easier to use anywhere.

but Jida's point is valid. it's a single shot, after all. if you're going to carry it, do it with the .45/.410 barrel, at least you know if it hits the thing will be hit hard...
