That is 3 times my total mortgage payment for the year for my house (3000 sq foot and 7 acres it sits on), I think I'd move!

I've always found a way to pay my taxes (except one year when I was about 18 and forgot to file and got a fine for $3000.00 10 years later). This coming tax season will be a real trial for me. After I became unemployed at the end of 2008 and I saw my 401K depleted by 1/2 in a few short months, I took the rest of that 401K money out before I lost it all and to support myself during my unemployment. I will have to pay the taxes on that money come April. I'm not sure where the money to pay the tax will come from. It seems to me that since Wall Street, Bush, and Obama ripped off half of my 401K that I should be able to charge them something.

I'll put it this way. Right now I'm in a business that has went south with the forclosures. I have such a high overhead that I can't afford to keep my lights on and food on the table, and still pay my taxes. As such, I'm getting out of this business asap and getting another started.

The next business I'm getting into now looks I'm actually going to make TOO MUCH money. I will be in the highest tax bracket if obama gets his way and then I will have to pay 55% on my estate. There would be hardly anything left for my children, which is the entire reason I'm working for myself. There will be no "empire" left for my family, the goverment will get it all.

Of course there are a few legal loopholes around some of this, but it's getting harder and harder to follow the code and leave your family anything. I'm confident that the U.S. tax code is written to keep you middle class. The rich don't want company and they make it hard as hell to get anywhere.

In a similar situation, small business, and the business will support our family just fine.
Not getting rich, but not taking handouts either.

Just two years ago we were forced into a tax payment plan that caused us to have to declare bankruptcy.

Now I'm out of a job, can't pay the bills, ineligible for unemployment b/c I was the boss, and still owe way more taxes than I can pay.
That is pretty much my story. My business failed, I lost almost everything, including my apartment. I was homeless for a short while, then sponged off the charity of friends. During that the trans on my car blew up. I couldn't get credit, so i ended up limping my car for almost a year while I payed off my suburban as it was on layaway. My car (by some insane miracle) lasted right up until the day before i took possession of my suburban. Then the trans went completely after limping it with only first gear, no reverse, all that time.

By then I was renting a sleeping room in a gym trying to save for a small apartment. I am here now, and will most likely spend the next few month moving my stuff between 2 storage units and the apartment trying to organize my life again.

Hopefully I will find my tax records and be able to file for the last few years without too much pain and punishment.

The state tried to contact me saying I owed $600.00 +, but i don't know how they would know that if I never filed. I am not sure it was actually them and not some scam. Either way, before I file I have to buy some lube and brace myself, this is going to really hurt.

The IRS is a kindler gentler federal agency, unless were talking over 100k they arent interested in expending the resources to take your toys, and I certainly dont have anything worth enough to take. The kicker is if anything should ever happen to me the burden of the debt lives on to my wife and if they could my kids
Sorry to hear of your trouble. I hope you have been working on a plan B that involves keeping at least some of your assets from the IRS and keeping a roof over your head.

Thank you,

I think I like the bartering system more and more as this year goes by.

BTW update, this year after we filed once again we could not afford to pay the entire tax amount. The good news is the IRS in all their grace has accepted a 50$ per month installment, that should keep our limited assets safe and them from garnishing our pay.
