Yup, I pay my taxes I estimate this year all of the taxes I pay are approximately $20k-22k. And some people on this board wonder why I bitch about more taxes coming from this government.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

Those American property taxes must be a burden. If a farmer in "he next county" has 200 acres, wich is not a big farm, does he/she have to pay $200,000? Who can pay that growing grain on 200 acres?

Regarding the OP I put "I can´t afford". Too bad there wasn´t an option that said: "I don´t have a choice, I´m a wage slave" because that would be me...

Hubby is definitely sore and I think it will be long haul back to good health.

I'm not sure how the farm thing works (farms get reduced rates here, that's why mine is so low-my next door neighbors property was assessed at a whopping $2490 LOL that is the house (old-old farmhouse and about 100 acres) I don't know how they did there math but I think I like it LOL), there are NO farms in the next county over....just high rises and parking structures. We are about 40 miles from there though.

in the state of NH, active farmland is taxed at next to nothing. Meanwhile my 1.5 acres and 3200 sq ft home gets me a property tax of $10,800 for the year. OUCH. BUT, no income or sales tax

That is 3 times my total mortgage payment for the year for my house (3000 sq foot and 7 acres it sits on), I think I'd move!

I've always found a way to pay my taxes (except one year when I was about 18 and forgot to file and got a fine for $3000.00 10 years later). This coming tax season will be a real trial for me. After I became unemployed at the end of 2008 and I saw my 401K depleted by 1/2 in a few short months, I took the rest of that 401K money out before I lost it all and to support myself during my unemployment. I will have to pay the taxes on that money come April. I'm not sure where the money to pay the tax will come from. It seems to me that since Wall Street, Bush, and Obama ripped off half of my 401K that I should be able to charge them something.
