I agree with both your assessment and your optimism.
I also hope and trust that the US government will somehow overcome this current polarization to come together sufficiently to save the Republic. We have about another 6-8 years, if the math is correct, before entitlement spending growth overwhelms the US economy. I would like to hope that Congress and the country at large can prevent some sort of economic collapse of the Republic. It would certainly be a shame if, after nearly 240 years of struggle, we lost America because we couldn't find a way out of an economic trap we set for ourselves.
We have seen worse, and survived worse - I'm thinking about the Civil War - and I believe that we can survive this as well. Ultimately I'm an optimistic prepper - which makes me an oddity on this board, apparently! But I continue, slowly but surely, to attempt to make wise decisions in the event that we're called on to endure a very unpleasant episode in US history.
