O:gwen ha'doiwas, you can get free 1:24K topo maps from:

    https://nationalmap.gov/ustopo/index.html

It's a little cumbersome and you really need a county map for each state just to stay aligned with a travel route. Having a plotter at work would really help when converting to a hardcopy map...

    Rock,
I've read many of your post and appreciate the no nonsense information you provide on the topic of hiking. Thanks.
I'm looking for the best/ most inexpensive source for 1:24,000 topos for my state and surrounding states. I've looked on line but I thought I would ask you as a way to cut through all the b.s. My work has a plotter so I could probably con them into printing off quads as needed. Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the good words and great post. You are one of the very few who seems to truly understand what I have done and still do. You are also one of the few who is welcome to visit, even camp as long as you wish on or near my mtn place, especially from July 1st into October. Your great post > www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=105153=#19

Hey Rock, I was just looking at your post about what three items you would take for survival (the naked and afraid post) and liked the knife setup you have, can you tell me more about it...like what you have on it, what kind of knife it is, the sheath (did you make it) etc. I have a mora and a large fixed blade (hard use knife that Cheaper than Dirt used to sell) as my two go to survival knives. Thanks for any info you can give me!

What Flag / Crest is that in your avatar? It looks very similar to the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Unless my memory is poor.

Hey Jed, hanging in there. I made it up to the Blade Show, but Uncle Sam has had me pretty busy lately!

Sorry to hear about your wife's cousin...that's tragic. I'll look that WMA up...we have our own bass-stocked lake that needs fishing, but we'll look at taking trip up to possibly do the range thing with ya.

I just thought of something. There is a state run place about 20 minutes from me. Charlie Elliott WMA. It is 12,000 acres with 15 lakes and ponds. They also have a 50 yd and a 100 yd range. All is free to use. If you have kids is is a great place to fish and camp (primitive) camping and fishing and range are free to use. Must have a fishing license and WMA stamp. They have 2 ponds set aside for kids only. All lakes and ponds are stocked. Bass, catfish, bream, crappie. My son and I spend alot of time there in the spring and early summer. The firing range is covered, and has benches. Nice range.
My wifes cousin is Army, was stationed in TX. he was run over with car, gang initiation. He has brain damage. They sent him to FT. Stewart. Savannah is home town. Fighting to live and walk again.
    Anyway
let me know what works for you
    Thanks
    Rick

Good to hear...we just moved from Fort Hood a few weeks ago and I recently returned from Afghanistan. We are enjoying the green, cooler weather and rain :) Congrats on your son's service and redeployment.

Sorry for the delay ubran, just made it back from Afghanistan. ROCK6 was my call-sign when I was a Company Commander of Charlie Company (Charlie Rock with the "Thing" as our mascot). I commanded that company from 2000-2002 at Fort Hood, TX. It's stuck with me as my handle on several forums.
